Davin joined a lineup of San Diego’s hottest chefs to cook at this fundraiser for the San Diego Food Bank. Each chef was paired up with a wine vendor to feed a table of 10. The following food items were complimented by wines from Chris Lobo of Native Wines.

Berry Good Fundraiser

Another magnificent Berry Good Food Foundation fundraising event at Bill and Michelle Lerach’s home in La Jolla. Hosted by Troy Johnson, attendees included top chefs, farmers, mixologists, scientists, food activists and more. All proceeds went to the foundation’s food-related educational programs for children and adults, from growth and preparation to nutritional and environmental impact.

Davin and Jessica were honored to attend and serve vegan appetizers at this event. Davin was one of three San Diego chefs (with Brian Malarkey and Miguel Valdez) to be presented with an award from the Berry Good Foundation for his commitment to sustainable sourcing.

Chef Showdown 2015

Center for Community Solutions (CCS) hosted the 11th Annual Chef Showdown, on Thursday, October 29 at the Port Pavilion at Broadway Pier.  The annual fundraising event takes place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is held in October throughout the country.  This one-of-a-kind culinary event benefited programs and services of CCS, a San Diego nonprofit that provides advocacy, legal support, healing and prevention services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. Davin had the privilege of being on the winning team, pairing up with Tommy from Catalina Products. Together they created a dish with local sheepshead and rice gnocci, served in a toasted coconut containing sheepshead stock and a French tomato sauce.

Cyclops Farms Fundraiser

If you have eaten at The Flying Pig, LTH, or Wrench & Rodent (just to name a few) then you have probably had produce from Cyclops Farms in Oceanside. Cyclops is the only Certified Organic (GMO free) veggie farm in coastal North County. Farmer Luke Girling is building a foundation of beautiful, organic produce to supply restaurants, grocery stores and farmers markets in Oceanside.

On October 18th the North County Chef community came together to help support this Cyclops Farms, led by small farm advocate Carolyn Kates. The generosity of our community was overwhelming, and the event was a huge success.

6 Degrees of Michael Mina Charity Dinner

July 22 2015

Devin and Jessika

Devin and Jessika

2015 Davin attended his second annual Berry Good Night. What an amazing an inspirational evening! An excerpt from Chef’s Roll describes the passion behind this event:

“Berry Good Night celebrates local growers, ranchers, and producers, along with championing the ideology of sustainable food. It unites kindred spirits—artisans, food activists, farmers, ranchers, winemakers, brewers, writers, chefs, restaurateurs and dedicated locavores—for an evening of conscious conversation over a sensory sustainable feast. Passionate chefs from San Diego and Baja California join together to create dishes using whole animals purchased from local ranchers and produce from local growers, paired with local wines, beers and spirits. Guests rotate tables each course as to forge new friendships and potential partnerships. Berry Good Night stands as a model for other communities to come together and share sustainable practices, explore fair food systems, and support their local growers and guardians of the land.”

Mama’s Day

The team at Mama’s Kitchen believes that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life — nutritious food. As a community-driven organization, they provide nutrition support to men, women, and children affected by AIDS or cancer who are vulnerable to hunger. Wrench & Rodent was honored to be a part of the Mama’s Day event for the first time this year. Over 55 top local chefs, restaurants and caterers presented signature dishes for attending guests, raising money for Mama's Kitchen's mission to deliver hot, nutrition-specific meals free of charge to local men, women, and children affected by AIDS or cancer.

Small Farms Conference

We were excited to provide tastes at the Small Farms Conference in San Diego this year. We were invited by Catt White and Trish Watlington, two women doing amazing things in the San Diego sustainable food scene. The conference includes workshops and keynote speakers on themes including Certified Farmer’s Markets, Farm Management, and Emerging Issues. We brought goodies from our friend Luke at Cyclops Farms to share with attendees.
